Personal Description:
Music is at my core. It drives my personal and professional life. I'm a fervent advocate of the creative and specifically, the Performing Arts.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught music in a variety of contexts both in the classroom as and an instrumental tutor for over thirty years and I believe that it is the right of every student to have access to a rich and varied musical education. To reserve this right for the privilege of the few is a cultural travesty and I support the inclusion of Music in the education of all students, for its intrinsic value and its transferable skills across all learning phases and into adulthood.
Music should be available, accessible and most of all, fun!
My private practice is in it's second phase, sandwiched around 14 years of classroom teaching in a secondary school. I'm equally at home in either environment and hope that I make my students feel at ease, but in the knowledge that they are in capable hands. Recent successes in this second phase include 100% distinction rate in ABRSM exams and university / conservatoire applications (with scholarships).
Tutoring Approach:
I'm happy to provide a formal, pedagogical approach to learning, using the graded examination system, or to be less formal and to learn for pleasure. I use a variety of teaching styles that include technology and more traditional methods to suit the person involved.
