Seán began his studies in music at age nine with piano lessons under the tutelage of Jean Carr. He went on to study Saxophone and Clarinet with Tim Hanafin at age twelve. He graduated from the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama Bachelor of Music (Pedagogy) degree in 2015, having studied saxophone with Kevin Hanafin. He has an Associate of the London College of Music Diploma (ALCM) in piano performance.
Seán has performed regularly with the DIT Wind Ensemble, DIT Symphony Orchestra, Trinity Orchestra and Irish Youth Wind Ensemble. He is a founding member of the Cue Saxophone Quartet which have performed at the Boyle Arts Festival, National Concert Hall and Trinity College Dublin. They have premiered new Irish music by Enda Bates and composers from the Irish Contemporary Collective.
Seán has taken part in masterclasses by Gerard McChrystal and Fintan Sutton. He has also received tuition from the Con Tempo Quartet through a Galway Music Residency programme.
Seán is currently attending Guildhall School of Music and Drama, in his second year of a Masters in Music Therapy. Seán is studying saxophone at GSMD under the tutelage of Martin Hathaway and piano under the tutelage of Judith Nockolds. In his first year Seán has had placements in Adult Mental Health and Mainstream Primary Schools.
Seán has over eight years teaching experience to both adults and children in both Dublin and London. During his undergraduate degree he specialised in Pedagogic Theory, Teaching Methods and Teacher Education.
I believe in creating a positive, encouraging environment in my lessons where students are motivated to love and succeed in music.
I help students aiming towards graded exams but also help students who are looking to take up an instrument for pleasure.
