Personal Description:
Sean is a Swiss-trained, London-based Singaporean clarinettist with broad international concert experience and expertise in education, outreach work, and artist development. He was a member of the Southbank Sinfonia in their 2019 season and has performed with the Geneva Chamber Orchestra, Geneva Sinfonietta, and the Singapore Lyric Opera Orchestra amongst others.
Notable international festival appearances include a recent début at the legendary BBC Proms in 2019, performances in Anghiari Festival (Italy), Paléo Festival Nyon (Switzerland), Singapore International Festival of Arts, Young Euro Classic (Germany), and the Rome Chamber Music Festival. Sean’s performing activities have brought him to various key venues such as the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Barbican Centre, Royal Albert Hall, Victoria Hall Geneva, Singapore Esplanade Theatres, Konzerthaus Berlin, and Palazzo Barberini in Rome.
The saxophone being Sean's secondary instrument, he played in the London premier of David Blake's chamber opera 'Scoring a Century' at the Peacock Theatre.
Sean holds an MA in Music Performance from the prestigious Haute Ecole de Musique-Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique de Genève and a BMus (Hons) from the National University of Singapore.
Tutoring Experience:
As an educator, Sean has accumulated over 10 years of experience from teaching absolute beginners, casual learners, and advanced students of all ages in individual and group settings in Switzerland, Singapore, Malaysia, and of course the UK.
Recent notable pedagogic activities include coaching and residency engagements with the Marlborough College, Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School, In Harmony Lambeth, and the Wind Band Association of Singapore.
Tutoring Approach:
Sean speaks fluent English, Mandarin, and French therefore lessons can be conducted in any of these languages. His specialty is in late Classical to late Romantic European repertoire and he is able to teach contemporary music and music of other genres.
Yes, music lessons should be fun and engaging, but equally important are basic musical foundations, technical rudiments, and perseverance for progress to happen. To Sean, ideal students are those who are patient, willing and able to work hard, demonstrate grit, practise regularly and diligently, and those who trust the learning process.
Currently accepting students in Greater London and the peripheral areas.
