Personal Description:

I have been playing guitar since 1993 and have experience in all guitar styles; Classical, Jazz, Blues & Rock whilst specialising in lead guitar.
In December of 1996 I was placed 2nd in the "Young Guitarist of the year" competition, (Under 17's category) playing at the Wembley Conference Centre in front of a panel of experts & the conference audience. The event was organised by Guitarist Magazine as part of the 1996 National Music Show.
I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Applied Music with Specialisation in Industry - a comprehensive course with classes including: Recording & Sound Production, Music History and Creative Composing Skills & Compositional Techniques.
When not teaching I composes and record my own music, remix music of others and play my collection of guitars. I have also guested as a solo artist in local venues with other musicians and bands.
I teaches all standards from beginner to advanced in playing and music theory. I also provide facilities to teach and advise on recording and compositional techniques with a full computer based recording studio at my disposal.
I provide a comprehensive service for guitar maintenance and repair as well as advice on set up based on, the world renowned, Dan Erlewine's guitar repair techniques.
A new venture I have taken on is customising guitars - this includes custom painting, customised pickguards and backplates, and an impressive fret dot light system.

Tutoring Experience:

As well as teaching privately I also teach at several primary schools around Ayrshire, have taught at Belmont Academy and lectured at The University Of the West of Scotland - Ayr Campus. Recently I took on the role of guitar instructor for the HNC and HND Music courses at Ayrshire College.

Tutoring Approach:

Guitar should be fun to learn and my approach is to get the students playing the tunes they want as quickly as possible without compromising on establishing a good technique that will stand the player in good stead for the rest of their playing life. I love to take the mystery out of learning the guitar and will cut through a lot of the jargon and keep things clear for students.
