I began learning the Violin aged 5 and soon followed with Piano. By the age of 15, I had achieved Grade 8 Violin (Distinction) and Grade 6 Piano. Not content to leave it there, I also added Flute, Guitar, Singing and Electric Violin to my instrumental collection.
Now, I write my own songs, I write film music, I do session work, I perform with The Family Table (Indie/Folk) and I perform solo for Weddings etc.
I'm married, have two teenagers and Maddie the Loopy Labrador. Both my kids are musical, so it's rarely quiet in our house.
I love all forms of music and the creativity and community that it creates.
I have over 20 years of teaching experience in a varity of settings. I have worked for Norfolk Music Services as a Peripatetic Instrumental Teacher in schools
and Teach Privately at home from my studio. I have also worked within schools teaching whole classes, spent 10 years running a Community Choir, run workshops, Childrens Choirs and Played in various groups, bands and ensembles.
I spent several years setting up and running a mobile recording studio for a local youth charity. The project visited schools, working with groups of disengaged young people, teaching them to use the recording equipment and to write, record and edit their own music.
My approach to teaching is relaxed. First and foremost, it has to be fun: That's what music is. It doesn't mean we don't work hard, but it should be enjoyable! Each person is different, therefore, each person has different goals and ambitions for their music. Some wish to take exams, others don't. Some want to learn classical, others want to learn Pop. I love it all, and am happy teaching it all.
Whether you want to learn to read music, play by ear, or a mixture of both, I will plan lessons around each set of targets that a student sets themselves. Where suitable, I like to use my home studio as part of our lessons - recording yourself and hearing it back is a great development tool and a helpful marker in hearing your progress.
