Welcome to my profile. I am a mother of two grown children, and looking to return to teaching the piano after taking a short break to write and publish a book and arrange a home relocation. I was taught in the classical style from the age of seven, and have enjoyed playing across all musical genres.
I am very excited to get back to the activity I love, passing on my own musical knowledge to others and enthusing them on their musical journey.
I have been teaching the piano and musical theory for over twenty years, to both children and adults.
I am DBS checked.
Firstly I would like to mention that most of my lessons, particularly for beginners, are thirty minutes long and cost £15. I also charge a little extra if I am coming out to your home. Hourly lessons are usually offered to those of Grade 3 and above.
I teach those who wish to learn as a hobby and those who also wish to follow the exam route through the ABRSM syllabus. Whichever route is chosen, I always aim to develop lessons that support the individual, and enthuse, inspire and make learning a fun experience. Everybody learns at different speeds, experience different confidence levels and have varying expectations. All of this is brought together as part of my approach to lessons to help the student progress at a rate that motivates them.
I create my own worksheets to help with theory and use rewards to motivate such as fun stickers and achievement certificates. I have, in the past, organised small concerts in my home where students could play their favourite piece to fellow students and family. This has always been done with the student's full consent. They are never forced to perform. I do mentor the students ready for things such as exams, helping them with their confidence and approach to nerves. I have never had a student fail an exam. This is true of both practical (playing) and theory exams.
