Personal Description:
I'm a professional horn player and experienced music teacher based in Belfast, where I hold the position of 2nd Horn with the Ulster Orchestra. Originally from England, I studied Music at the University of Oxford before completing my Master's in Performance at the Royal College of Music. My career combines the demands of professional orchestral performance with a genuine passion for teaching musicians of all ages and abilities.
I've had the pleasure of teaching everyone from 4-year-olds taking their first steps in music to a 74 year-old fulfilling an ambition—proof that it's never too early or too late to start!
Tutoring Experience:
I have over ten years of teaching experience at prestigious institutions including Tonbridge School and Hilden Grange Preparatory School, as well as teaching privately. My students range from complete beginners to advanced players.
I offer tuition in horn, trumpet, trombone, cornet, piano, and music theory, and have successfully prepared students for ABRSM and Trinity exams at all levels. My background as a professional musician means I bring real-world performance experience into every lesson.
Tutoring Approach:
I focus on building strong technical foundations so that students can express themselves musically. I tailor lessons to individual goals, whether that's exam preparation, auditions, or playing for enjoyment.
My extensive teaching experience means I can adapt to different learning styles. Lessons are relaxed and supportive, and mistakes are part of the process. I teach from my home in the Ravenhill Road area, or we can discuss travelling to you for an extra travel fee.
Whether you're starting out or looking to refine your skills with professional guidance, I'd be happy to help.
