Personal Description:

I'm a bass guitarist and double bass player from Edinburgh, living and working in Glasgow. I've been playing the bass guitar for over 13 years, and have experience in many styles, from rock & pop to musical theatre, free improvisation and beyond! Over the years I have also dabbled in many other instruments, most notably the double bass but also the guitar, piano, mandolin and tuba.

I perform regularly as a bass guitarist and double bassist, and enjoy composing and recording my own music from time to time!

Tutoring Experience:

I have had a range of private students from beginners to intermediate players, beginning while I was studying Composition at the University of Glasgow. During the course of my degree I also completed a module which required me to lead music classes with a Primary 5 class (featuring many absolute beginners as well as young musicians) facilitating their individual creativity and freedom in music.

Tutoring Approach:

As a teacher I tailor my approach to each student, taking their individual ambitions and background into account. I encourage students to develop their broader musicality in tandem with their bass playing, drawing on my experience as a double bass player, singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist. Most importantly, lessons should be fun, as well as productive!

As a student myself I have gone through a variety of classical training as well as more informal teaching, and draw on the advantages of different disciplines in my own teaching. As such, students will learn the fundamentals of music theory as well as how to approach their instrument in an instinctive, intuitive manner.

Additionally, I now offer lessons via Skype as well as from my home studio, in order to be as flexible as possible for prospective students.

My lesson times are 50 rather than 60 minutes, which allows for reasonable change-over time between students, so you get the maximum amount of tuition out of your session.
