Information About Sam - Welwyn Garden City teacher
This is how 2 referees rated Sam:
Hi there, I'm a recording and performing musician (primarily guitarist) and have been playing for 11 years. I have always been pursuing music myself and love the craft. Over the years, I have delved into different aspects of the music world, from recording to performing to the use of different instruments. My main base of knowledge is in guitar playing, though I have a fundamental understanding of theory and how that is applied to the guitar. I have, more recently, started playing synths and piano, which helps greatly in explaining some musical ideas in a more visual way. I also have plenty of experience recording my own music, having recorded my own music for 3 years; I am also currently active in the recording space, releasing a lot of my own work that I have recorded at home.
I personally believe that a more well rounded understanding of music in general really helps when it comes to playing the guitar and working on recording your own music.
I am an active recording and performing artist with music focused around my guitar playing. I have been playing for 11 years, both at home and on stage. I have a lot of practical experience when it comes to playing the guitar, playing alongside many seasoned guitarists and recording my own music from scratch, which I hope to impart onto you.
I have worked as a guitar salesmen in London, Regent Sounds, which has allowed me to come into contact with many beginners who I have pointed in the right direction when it comes to what to look for in lessons and also what to look for in a good first guitar.
I have also been a recording artist for three years and can offer some extra curricular insight into the recording world if that interests you. I can also offer equipment hire for in person lessons with spare guitars and amps. I also have all the necessary equipment to record practically anything you would like if you choose to explore the recording process.
My teaching method is to start out with some universal basics like simple chords and/or scales and then applying those ideas to some of your favourite songs. Learning songs is, in my opinion, one of the greatest ways to learn guitar. It allows you to understand how different musical ideas work without being bogged down in the super technical side of music and guitar.
I approach each topic firstly by finding out what you already know about it. A lot of students already have some understanding about certain things and its a great stepping stone for further explanations and practical applications. I then deconstruct the idea for you, showing you individual parts and patterns to follow. I also adapt this depending on how you work best. I have found some students do best with me showing them exactly what to do, while others find they prefer to try it and have me correct them as they go.
Ultimately, my lessons are here to serve you to the best of my ability. While I do put together a plan for moving forward for each of my students, if you come in wanting to learn about something you saw on YouTube, I am more than happy to adapt each lesson, the lessons are here for you, not my lesson plan.
