Hi there! I am a friendly and enthusiastic private tutor.
I finished Master degree in piano performance at Guildhall school of Music and Drama and trained to be an Alexander Technique teacher.
Making music is an expression of who we are. Ever since I started teaching 16 years ago, I have believed that everyone is gifted and I am now completely convinced that we all possess some deep inner quality within, which has been waiting to be released.
I wish to guide my pupils to enjoy music and play piano their entire lives, no matter whether they become professionals or continue to play for pleasure. I provide music lessons so that my pupils become balanced musicians who can express who they are and find solutions.
My teahing is based on the idea that everyone posess musical gift. I would love to take care of the musicality each one of my pupils and try to find out how we can reveal it in music. My passion is about how to allow these inner qualities to be revealed. I am really enjoying helping my pupils realise their true potentials as musicians.
I have been teaching private piano lessons in both Japan and the UK for over 16 years: I have taught students of all levels: from beginners (both children and adults) to advanced students from ages 4-75 years. I have taken more than 40 students through ABRSM exams mostly with distinction/merit.
I have the desire to inspire my pupils to the wonderful world of music, in order to assist them in continuing to have genuine excitement and growing love for music. I believe it is key to success in music making and allowing a student to develop their natural appreciation for the instrument. Ultimately there is no correct answer when we come to express who we are. Therefore I always make sure that my pupils are aware that they have freedom to explore music.
I would like to provide music lessons for the fundamental growth of the whole human being. In our lessons, you learn different elements of music step by step by studying simple musical materials. I use simple words and fun games so that my pupils organically understand different aspects of music. That way, they have solid understanding which makes it easier to approach making music on a keyboard.
I give lessons to my pupils for them to become balanced musicians –they become whether professionals or music lovers – who understand musical language, different styles and can do improvisations. I am trained to be a classical concert pianist and my strength is to give you basic understanding of musical grammar and different styles of period and composers. Improvisation is a basic skill to understand music language and classical music so I love encouraging my pupils to improvise freely.
I have a supportive and encouraging approach as a tutor and I see my pupils’ challenges as my own. I believe that motivation is highly important for the learning process, so I take extra care to understand what it is that the student would like out of their studies, the styles and genres of preference. I then tailor my lessons accordingly.
I am a qualified Alexander Technique teacher. I guide my pupils to how to stop tensing up and coordinate yourself as a whole. The Alexander Technique is considered one of the most powerful approach for teaching for musicians, a foundation skill to learn to play freely and express more deeply. The Alexander Technique enhances your ability to coordinate your body and mind to the best condition as possible so that you will find your general well-being enriched through our lessons. My pupils do not need regular finger exercises and their minds and bodies are tuned, free and coordinated, so I observed a large improvement very quickly. The pupils play with a greater depth of feeling, individuality, passion and the music comes from deep within themselves. Making music requires you to connect yourself –to touch your emotions, to organise your thoughts and to coordinate your body with a good understanding of musical language. When you come to perform, you have the chance to push your boundaries and achieve something greater.
There are students concerts twice a year where you will have opportunity to perform and share your musicality and musical journey with us!
