Personal Description:
I teach pupils from beginner level to Grade 8 (Piano) and beginners to Grade 6 (Violin), as well as Music Theory and Composition. I much enjoy teaching pupils of all ages, including many adults. I aim to make lessons enjoyable, fun and structured, tailoring my teaching to my pupils and their aims for learning.
I also love accompanying, and accompany for music exams up to Grade 8 and in concerts. I am able to accompany for music exams at short notice, availability permitting.
Composition and arrangement are particular interests of mine, and in December 2018 I won the Sir David Willcocks Carol Composition Competition. In 2012 I was also a winner of the Carol for Christmas Composition Competition run by Classic FM and The King's Singers.
I have a BMus (Hons) first class degree from King's College London (2010), as well as the DipABRSM in Piano Teaching, DipABRSM Piano Performance and Grade 8 Violin (distinction).
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught for over 15 years both from my home in Stonesfield (near Woodstock) and in independent schools.
I have prepared and entered a large number of pupils for music exams (usually ABRSM but I have also entered pupils with Trinity) - normally live exams, although I also have experience of recorded exams. Many have gained Merits and Distinctions, in all grades. Some pupils prefer not to work for exams, which of course is absolutely fine. I have also prepared pupils for concert performances and music scholarship auditions.
I have accompanied for many music exams (live and recorded), school concerts, at church etc, and have directed several school string orchestras (often composing the music for these).
Tutoring Approach:
I teach pupils of a wide range of abilities, from beginners to advanced - I love this variety and try to inspire pupils to reach their potential and enjoy playing, whatever their level or reason for learning. With all pupils I aim to be warm, encouraging and approachable.
I offer 30 or 40 minute lessons (or 20 minutes for child beginners).
If you would like further information about piano or violin lessons, accompanying or composition/arrangement, I would be delighted to hear from you.
