Information About Robert - Southampton teacher
This is how 2 referees rated Robert:
My name is Robert and I am a Drummer, Percussionist and Teacher from Southampton. I have been playing drums from an early age, and have been playing professionally since the age of 12 years old for various bands in different styles of music. Since graduating from Leeds College of Music with a BA(Hons) in Popular music in 2015, I have been a full time Session Drummer playing with various different function and original bands around the country at nationally recognised festivals. I am also proficient on other instruments such as Guitar, Bass Guitar, Keyboard, accordion and Tuned Percussion giving me a wider breadth of knowledge enabling me to understand music fully beyond just Drums. I currently teach in various parts of Southampton on a daily basis. I am based in Chandlers Ford but I travel as far as Fareham to teach every week. I have always travelled to students' houses in the past. I would be willing to travel as far as Portsmouth and anywhere in between.
I started teaching in September 2016 with Showcase Performance Company which includes individual tuition for Drum Kit, large group workshops for Drums, Guitar and music Technology. Since then I been teaching Drums and Percussion privately as well. I currently teach ages 7 all the way up to 16. I have recently started booking my students in for exams for exams using the Trinity Rock & Pop grade syllabus. I feel that these books are appropriate for covering a wide range of styles and are very accessible. I recently had my first student do his grade 1 exam and got 96 out 100, and since then i have booked in students for exams up to grade 4. I can teach anything up to grade 8.
Exams aren't everything. I have students from many different backgrounds at many different levels. Some Students just want to learn their favourite songs, and some want to study the drums in fine detail. I believe it is key to learn which ever way the students feels is right, however I always do my best to help the student recognise the importance of reading notation and using their ear. If you can do both I believe these are the key ingredients to becoming an overall professional drummer. I always try to get all my students to push themselves to play music outside of the bedroom. Music is all about performing and I like to get my students to join bands in different styles, or even start their own bands.
