Personal Description:

Freelance musician and teacher based in Birmingham.

I am an alumni of Birmingham Conservatoire where I studied saxophone on the B(mus) Hons jazz course. I started playing Clarinet before switching to saxophone and have Classical and Orchestral as well as Jazz, Pop and Rock playing experience. I have played in venues around the west midlands in various settings as a freelance musician, including with the tribute band 'Prone 2 Madness' and the Blue Lion party band. My own quartet performed most recently as part of Birmingham's Jazz Legends festival, and was described by world renowned saxophonist Mark Turner as 'super killing' during a workshop at Birmingham Conservatoire.

Tutoring Experience:

I have experience of teaching saxophone and clarinet to all ages and abilities, from helping complete beginners buy their first instrument through to preparing advanced students for performances. I have entered students for ABRSM exams, and am also qualified to assess ABRSM music medals (pre-grade 1 exams) for younger students. As well as one-to-one I have experience of leading music workshops and enjoy providing fun and engaging activities in lessons.

Tutoring Approach:

As a young musician I am passionate about sharing my enthusiasm for all kinds of music, from Rock and Pop to Folk, Jazz and classical. I teach with patience and understanding. My specialism is in Jazz and improvisation and I can teach the basics of harmony and music theory through fun practical examples, and teach instrumental technique with a creative approach as well as through grades and reading music. I have a breadth of musical education experience to draw on which means I can tailor lessons to an individuals interests or learning objectives, as well as assessing areas for improvement and development.
