Personal Description:
I have 28 years of experience as a trombonist and have played in various styles, including brass bands, big bands, and orchestras. Music has led some fantastic opportunities including, playing at the National Brass Band Championships, for the Olympic torch at the Nottingham Ice Arena and being part of a brass quintet that played at various events from weddings to County fairs.
My Journey into music began on the trumpet at the age of 8 moving to the trombone at 12, I was also part of a church choir for many years. Having always been involved with music, I have now moved into teaching professionally after my music degree from the University of Nottingham.
Tutoring Experience:
I spent 3 years helping teach individual children for a local Brass Band’s training brand, this involved sitting with pupils during rehearsals and helping them with their part, as well as individual lessons. Since becoming a professional trombonist and teacher, I have taught at various levels, these would vary from complete beginners to putting pupils into grades with either the ABRSM or Trinity exam board.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to teaching is to view each pupil individually, I believe that each pupil has different needs and as a result should have an individual plan to help them be the best they can be. These plans are discussed with each pupil with the aim of allowing them to choose a repertoire that not only helps to improve them as a player, whether it is a beginner or an advanced student, but also that they enjoy playing.
