Personal Description:
I am a professional trombonist and composer based in Raynes Park, South West London. Since studying at the Royal Northern College of Music (2017-21), I have gained experience touring/recording with various artists including Slum Village, Joe McElderry, Ray Quinn, Lesley Garrett and Abstract Orchestra. From 2017-21, I was bass trombonist of the world famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band. I've also performed with many of the UK's top orchestras/big bands including the Hallé Orchestra, Manchester Concert Orchestra, London Jazz Orchestra and National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO). In addition to performing, I have a wealth of experience recording on various commercial projects including BBC Children in Need: Got It Covered featuring Shaun Dooley, Grimethorpe Colliery Band & BBC Concert Orchestra, Fantastic Vol 1 + 2 (Slum Village & Abstract Orchestra) and Undeniable (Ray Quinn).
Tutoring Experience:
I have worked at Wandsworth Music since 2022 and I have taught at many leading institutions such as Junior Royal Northern College of Music (JRNCM), alongside workshops and residencies at Wycombe Abbey International School Changzhou, China, Chellow Heights Special School, Bradford and Grimethorpe Youth Band. I also teach privately covering a wide range of study including jazz, classical, pop, piano and music theory.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach is fun, creative, non-prescriptive and tailored to suit each individual student. I like to create a relaxed learning environment, putting as much emphasis on fundamental technique as music making. I am happy to work through exams with any of my students and I have good knowledge of ABRSM exams as well as other examination boards. However I appreciate this path is not for everyone and so I'm happy to support and maximise learning away from exams.
