Personal Description:

During my BA in Music I continued studies in composition and orchestration right through to my final year, leading to an advanced level of understanding of music theory and its practice.

I am highly skilled at using Sibelius music notation software, and able to tutor this as well.

I also have a Diploma in singing performance, grade 5 piano, harp and music theory, all obtained through ABRSM. This means I am very familiar with the grade system and syllabus, and can additionally help to teach techniques for improving sight-singing and aural tests.

Tutoring Experience:

Mentoring younger students while in sixth form - helping with organisation of time, managing homework, and specific help with subjects.

Helping fellow music degree students with advanced use of Sibelius - music notation software

Tutoring Approach:

Music Theory can often seem like a chore, compared to the fun of practical music lessons. I like to show how an understanding of the theory can really enhance your appreciation for music itself.

It is important to find ways in which aspects of music theory can be internalised and 'felt', rather than existing as a purely academic list of facts and processes.
