Personal Description:

My name's Rebecca, and I'm living as a freelance violinist, splitting my time between Manchester and Cumbria. I graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music with a Masters in Violin Performance in 2018 and have since had an active career as a freelance performer and teacher. I care deeply about all of my students and tailor lessons to the individual. When not playing and teaching, I love being outdoors!

Tutoring Experience:

Currently, I am a violin tutor and chamber music coach for Yorkshire Young Musicians' Centre for Advanced training. I deliver cover tuition at RNCM's junior department and work with violinists at Chethams School of Music. I also work in a Grammar School and have maintained a private teaching practice over the last 8 years. My students range from absolute beginners (both adults and children) up to those entering music college; past students have gone on to study at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. I actively seek out opportunities to develop my teaching and am continually inspired by new resources and approaches.

Tutoring Approach:

First and foremost, I hope to pass on an enjoyment of music to my students and firmly believe that whilst lessons should be serious and productive, they should also be inspiring and exciting. I teach using a range of materials and encourage students to follow the ABRSM graded exams with the aim of passing at least one grade per year: for absolute beginners, it can take a little longer to reach grade 1, but a 'Prep Test' proves to be a first stepping stone. To make progress and get the most from learning, I emphasise the importance of regular practice and for younger pupils, encourage parental involvement. I also promote regular performances amongst my pupils and have previously hosted informal christmas concerts where students play in a relaxed environment, followed by mince pies!
