Personal Description:

I am a multi-instrumentalist based in central Birmingham with a First-class degree from the University of Manchester, specialising in trombone, accordion and piano performance. I have an ABRSM piano diploma (distinction) and am currently studying at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. I am a versatile performer in many musical styles, especially classical, folk and jazz and am always to keen to encourage improvisation as a means of exploring one's musical voice, and having fun with it!

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught classroom music lessons in India, using the accordion as an accompaniment to choirs and for demonstrations. I have also taken part in outreach work with young people with the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, including their Music Maze and ZigZag Ensemble programmes, helping children to understand the possibilities of various instruments and exploring their uses within an ensemble. I am happy to teach music theory up to grade 5, and tutor GCSE or A level music.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that training your ears to help you find the sound and style you want to play is the most important skill for any musician to develop. I have plenty of methods for helping you improve as an instrumentalist, including tips concerning: fundamental playing techniques, encouraging positive practice sessions and splitting up musical and technical components before putting them back together. I also believe in the value of improvisation at all stages of learning to help you explore any limitations you may have, so that you can break through them. Ultimately, I want you to be able to play the way you hear in your head, and pick up some new ideas along the way too!
