I have recently completed postgraduate studies as a singer at the RNCM. I have a wide ranging musical background, playing clarinet, flute, saxophone and piano as well as singing which is my main study.
I have played and sung with big bands, in choirs , with piano, orchestra and a Capella. I have performed many solo concerts as a singer and have been in operas as a soloist and in the chorus. I began singing age 8 joining a local church choir and began entering competitions and singing solos during my teenage years. I was lucky enough to receive a young achieves award for music.
I have up to grade 8 ABRSM singing, and graded qualifications in piano, flute, clarinet and music theory.
Outside of music and teaching I love to read and go to concerts and have a interest in films. I really enjoy walking in the countryside and love to travel and meet new people. I can always find something to learn wherever I go.
I am a trained secondary music teacher, so can tutor for GCSE and A level. I have also taught in primary and infant schools, not only music but as a general teacher. I have tutored singing for GCSE and A level students. I worked as a teacher of various instruments and singing when doing my A levels and taught clarinet privately and in schools as a peripatetic tutor. I have good experience in running choirs in schools and have also done singing, rhythm and world music workshops.
Music is so important. It was always my favourite subject at school and was my chosen career path from being very young. I have therefore developed a very wide range of experience to help my teaching. I feel so lucky to be able to work as a musican and teacher, as I am able to pass I what I have learned form the many people I have worked with over the years and to encourage development and achievement. This means that I can tailor lessons to the individual and ensure that everyone is getting the most out of their lesson.
Music is such a good way to develop interpersonal and communication skills and helps us to be well rounded individuals. It is a great way of helping those who struggle with confidence. I feel that it is so important to try to increase the confidence of pupils and teach performance skills as well as the chosen instrument.
I love music of any kind and am more than willing to let students choose some of their own repertoire. I teach classical, modern, song, popular, jazz, blues, opera, musical and would encourage singers to work in various languages.
I am a very outgoing teacher who is able to remain calm and focused in any situation. I am friendly and encouraging and extremely patient. I feel that music lessons should be fun and encouraging. They should be varied and accessible and be tailored to suit the needs of each individual.

She is paitent, understanding and adapts her teaching to my needs. As an adult working full time in a very demanding job, practice and progression can be difficult and Rachel understands this and adapts my lessons to help me progress without becoming stressed.
A friendly and supportive teacher who I would recommend to anyone taking up piano no matter their age or position.
She is competent and extremely talented and it was a real pleasure to begin my journey with such an inspiring tutor.
