Information About Rachel - Glasgow teacher
This is how 2 referees rated Rachel:
Based in Glasgow, Maltese pianist Rachel is currently studying for a Master of Music in Piano Performance at the highly prestigious Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under the tutelage of Prof Fali Pavri and Sasa Donaldson. She has been described as a ‘dedicated and gifted pianist’ by pianist and scholar Professor Paul Roberts.
Rachel has performed in various concerts and festivals as a recitalist, accompanist and chamber musician in distinguished venues across Malta, France and the UK. Her passion to perform rare repertoire and contemporary music has led to the unique opportunity to perform in a master class with composer Thierry Escaich, where she performed one of his works. Rachel also premiered an ensemble work by Olivier Calmel for a silent film in Avignon (France) in 2019.
Throughout her artistic development she has been selected to perform in several masterclasses with renowned artists and pedagogues such as Yuri Didenko, Kenneth Hamilton, Aaron Shorr and Mikhail Petukhov. Rachel has been twice chosen by Arts Council Malta to attend a series of intensive international masterclasses in South-West France on full scholarship namely ‘Music at Albignac’ (2018) and ‘Music at Château d’Aix’ (2019) with Paul Roberts.
A native of Malta, Rachel studied under the tutorship of Gisele Grima in Malta before furthering her studies in France with Veronique Muzy and Andrea Corazziari. She holds a Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music in Piano Performance.
Throughout the past years I have acquired a rich experience teaching students with different abilities, personalities and with ages ranging from six years to mature adults. Besides teaching privately, I have also taught in a music school in the South of France where I had twenty-three students under my wing. My responsibilities included preparing students for exams and coordinating school concerts within a team.
Passionate about languages and pedagogy, I am also a certified EFL (English as Foreign Language) teacher and I have taught individual and group classes in various English Language schools in France and in Malta including at Education First (EF). I completed a Teaching English as a Foreign Language course (TEFL) at Skylark School of English in 2013.
I describe myself as a dynamic, enthusiastic and patient teacher with a passion for learning and pedagogy. The lessons are student centered and thus I adapt quickly to the ability and needs of the respective student. I am happy teaching a student in preparation for exams or casually. During the lesson I try to keep a balance between developing technique, working on repertoire, music theory, sight reading and aural awareness as requested. Having studied music in Malta, France and UK I can confidently state that this has provided me with a broader spectrum to different approaches in learning and teaching music.
I firmly believe that teaching is a rewarding and mutual experience of growth for both the student and teacher alike.
