Personal Description:
I am a full time musician splitting my time between teaching piano, accompanying and giving recitals. I have a piano performance degree from the renowned RNCM alongside the highly regarded LRSM diploma. I also hold a DipABRSM in piano teaching which I gained with distinction. I am very patient, knowledgeable and enthusiastic.
I have previously worked as a piano teacher and accompanist at the Belvedere Preparatory School in Liverpool, the Forest Preparatory School in Altrincham and for Rimmers Music in Bury.
I have recently done freelance work for the BBC at media city, recitals and rehearsals at Manchester University and various other private events and recitals at places such as the Midland Hotel Manchester, Manchester Cathedral, Liverpool Cathedral and the Lady Lever Art Gallery.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching for the past 7 years, I currently teach over 70 pupils weekly and have put many pupils in for exams ranging from prep test to diplomas with excellent results. I have completed a diploma in instrumental teaching myself gaining a distinction. Most recent pupil success includes one of my pupils auditioning and being accepted into the RNCM Junior Department. Another pupil won first prize in her category at the Alderley Edge Festival 2018.
Whilst a student at the RNCM we had weekly pedagogy tutorials where we taught in class situations, we were sent to teach in local schools and were also marked on our ability to teach a range of abilities and ages. We received tuition in pedagogy from leading conservatoire professors.
Tutoring Approach:
This will be developed to the style the student learns best with. I like to base my methods on Paul Harris' 'simultaneous learning' which is the approach that large segments of the lesson can encompass as many musical ideas/techniques/theory etc without separating the topics entirely.
I am happy to teach the ABRSM syllabus or just for someone interested in learning for themselves.
