Information About Rachael - Scarborough teacher - (1 review)
This is how 2 referees rated Rachael:
North Yorkshire student available to tutor Music Theory and Classical Guitar from Beginner to Intermediate level. Voluntary experience in the Education Sector as a Learning Mentor and Language Assistant.
Since the age of eight I have practiced classical guitar, and currently I am working towards Grade 8 having achieved Grade 7. I have also studied the theoretical aspects of music for several years.
While at Sixth Form I volunteered as a Learning Mentor for Philosophy and Ethics A Level whereby I helped an individual student with revision and essay writing. I also undertook a work experience placement as a Language Assistant at a secondary school through which I supported small groups of GCSE Spanish pupils with exam preparation.
I am familiar with the ABRSM syllabus for theory and practical examinations, and so can advise students from my own experience.
For guitar tuition I am willing to introduce sheet music or work with tablature depending on individual preferences.

During the initial contact both I and the tutor were aware of the distances from our home bases(21.27 miles as stated in the initial information open to both myself and the tutor). The advert stated that “tutor travels to me” .It was assumed by me that the tutor would give the lessons at my home( this has been my experience for my children in the past) Mindful of the distances involved I offered to travel to Scarborough for the lesson( see my entry 17/05/19).At no time during the initial contact was it mentioned that a neutral venue would have to be found, in the Whitby or Scarborough area. It transpired that the hiring cost of the venue would be in the order of four times the hourly tuition rate. At no time in the preliminary information exchange was it mentioned that the tutor had no private transport and the public transport would have to be used. All this AFTER I paid my intro fee.
In retrospect this was, in my opinion possibly deceptive, at best naïve and definitely a complete waste of my time and fee.
I look forward to a refund of my introduction fee in full as I have already checked for a suitable alternative tutor in this area on your web site and non-exists.
I myself have only recently turned 20 and do not have a great deal of experience in guitar tutoring. I also suffer from a thyroid condition which can cause memory loss and forgetfulness.
As a small way to compensate I have directed this client to my former guitar teacher, with whom I have completed classical guitar exams up to ABRSM Grade VII.
Again, I am very sorry. The payment will be refunded with immediate effect.
To avoid a similar issue in future, I have restricted my area of travel to Scarborough.
