Information About Rach - Chessington teacher

Personal Description:

I'm a qualified Musical Leader and Trainee Music Therapist, based in Chessington. My main instrument is Flute (MA Music Performance, first study flute) but I also play and teach Piano. I provide piano accompaniment in my lessons.

I'm classically trained, but I also love improvisation, and playing a range of genres. My current role as Musical Leader for a Surbiton based youth band involves co-ordinating, accompanying and arranging music from shows, pop music and much more.

I have an up to date enhanced DBS check and children + adults safeguarding level 3.

Tutoring Experience:

I have 10 years experience coaching and leading a youth band, with a further 3 years experience of private flute-tuition.

Within my youth band I have coached children and young people with special needs and autism - and I'm happy to make any adjustments to help out any pupil according to their needs.

During my Music Therapy training I have had 6 months experience on placement, working at an SEN school, using music to help children with autism and selective mutism.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a pupil-centred approach; it is important to me that pupils are making music they enjoy, as well as music that will challenge them. I'm a firm believer that practising scales goes a long way!

My lessons are tailored to the level, ability, personality, motivations and tastes the pupil. My aim is to make instrumental tuition as enjoyable and accessible as possible for all who I teach.
