Personal Description:
I have a PhD in musicology from Durham University, along with a Masters of Music, Post-graduate Diploma and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Surrey.
I have over 15 years of teaching, recording and performing experience and am director of the guitar school East London Music.
I am a professional performer: I have played with Rick Wakeman and Sue Perkins in the Orion Orchestra, performed with the Albert Hall House band and with the Royal College of Music Orchestra and am a frequent performer at the Scala, Hilton Park Lane, Charlie Wrights and many other venues.
I won an Arts and Humanities Research Council award for PhD study.
I have recorded with various artists and labels in studios including Metropolis, Premises, Chapel Studios, Attic Sounds, Bush Studios, and many others.
Tutoring Experience:
I have a fully operational studio available in Canary Wharf, with high-end hardware and software as well as video recording capabilities.
I currently deliver guitar and string teaching provision to 7 schools and colleges across London and run my own guitar school and agency.
I am a fully licensed, registered teacher with the Triborough Music Hub and Bromley Youth Music Trust, holding a current enhanced DBS and Safeguarding & Child Protection Certificate. I receive refresher training on professional development and safeguarding every four months.
Tutoring Approach:
I aim to offer bespoke courses to students, tailored to your particular strengths, weaknesses and goals. I offer tuition on all styles, incorporating the holy trinity of technique, music theory and performance (song-learning). Lessons should be fun and engaging, since guitar music is extremely rich and diverse: there will always be some technique, song, lick or sound out there to inspire you. My job is to find that inspiration!
