Personal Description:
I'm a professional pianist and bassist offering lessons in and around London and Essex.
I specialise in jazz, blues, stride, boogie woogie, dixieland and soul music, but am happy to teach whatever the student prefers.
I'm currently working with Georgia and The Vintage Youth regularly performing and recording, as well as doing occasional radio and TV appearances. Previously, I studied music at The BRIT School, piano with Tim Richards, Malcolm Edmonstone and Julie Parker and double bass with Derek Baxter.
I also worked as the pianist and musical director for the Tunbridge Wells production by 'The Very Clever Theatre Company' of 'Avenue Q' for which I won the Kent Arts Foundation award for 'Best Direction of Music' and spent 3 years as the pianist and musical director of a 15 piece big band. I've also played piano in productions of 'Godspell', 'The Lion King' and 'Oliver'.
I can travel to students within about 10 miles of Woodford, or, for students further away, I also offer lessons via Skype or Google Hangouts at a reduced rate of £30 per hour.
Tutoring Experience:
I regularly teach ages 7+ (including adults) and all skill levels from beginners to professionals.
Tutoring Approach:
Mostly, I teach jazz, although I'm happy to teach whatever the student desires. I sometimes work from method books, or, if it suits the student better, I may devise my own lesson plans.
I can also prepare students for ABRSM, Trinity or LCM grade exams using either a classical syllabus or a jazz syllabus, at the request of the student.
