Information About Olivia - Newham teacher
This is how 2 referees rated Olivia:
I have a Bachelor's degree in Comprehensive Music from the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada, that I received in 2018. I have a Diploma of Biblical Studies from Bethany College in Saskatchewan, Canada, that I received in 2013. My music degree included countless live performances as both an ensemble and solo performer and pushed my creative limits as a soloist and as a learner. My diploma included theatre experience of two major play productions, one with the leading role in The Hiding Place. Performing is in my blood, as well as the study of past performing, as some of my favourite classes in university were studying Shakespeare's plays.
I have a passion for learning and would love to be able to share that passion and to inspire others to become lifelong learners.
I have one year of private music lesson teaching experience, and would love the opportunity to further share my knowledge and passion of music.
I have been playing my cello for over 20 years. I wished to pursue music further and received my Bachelor of Music degree in 2018. In addition to private training, I have 9 years of large ensemble experience and 4 years of chamber ensemble experience. My other instruments are piano and voice. I am trained up to a Royal Conservatory of Music Grade 7 level for piano, and for voice I have sung in three different choirs ranging in size and covering various styles and complexities of choral music from classical to jazz to contemporary.
I try to have a very comprehensive approach to learning an instrument. This includes technique development, musicality and expression, ear training, theory where applicable, and the context of where the piece/instrument fits into the history of Western music. I give each student practice plans to allow the time in between sessions to be as productive as possible and to promote progress for the student. I make notes on what was covered in the session as well for the student to refer back to. I believe the way for the student to achieve the most progress is to have excellent learning materials. For cello, I prefer the Suzuki method sheet music books, and for piano I prefer the Royal Conservatory of Music books. While these are my recommendations, I will be happy to work with the music materials you have already, or to help you pick the best ones for your learning needs.
