Personal Description:

Having grown up in a family of musicians and watching my dad work as a music teacher, I care passionately about musical performance and tuition. This led me to study music at Manchester University gaining a 2:1 where I continued my studies on the Piano, Violin and Bass Guitar by performing solo recitals, working on new compositions and performing with Orchestras.

Alongside my classical studies I have accompanied Jazz singers in Cabaret acts and pop choirs, played Bass Guitar for Big Bands and smaller Jazz Ensembles and currently play Violin in a Gypsy Jazz band.

With all these different influences I am happy to accommodate to different styles of teaching depending on what the student wants. These could vary from helping a student pass an exam, developing confidence with Jazz soloing, learning different styles of folk on the Violin, song writing on the piano as the most important thing is enjoying the music that you are playing.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught privately for most of life in the UK and in America. This has ranged from private classical instrumental tuition to working with Pop singers and choirs. I am confident working towards ABRSM exams on the Violin and Piano and other related exams on the Bass Guitar. As a keen jazz musician I have taught students how to start creating solos, understanding Jazz harmony and ensemble playing. I have also given song writing lessons for singers and pianists looking to find their own musical voice.

Tutoring Approach:

I am relaxed and personable when teaching as the most important thing is that the Student looks forward too and enjoys the lessons. If this means sticking to an exam syllabus then I will use technical studies, sight reading alongside developing musicianship. If the student wants to just play for fun by learning great Jazz solos by ear then I am happy to do both! I do think it is important to have a technical ability with the instrument but more importantly it is about the student feeling that they can express themselves in whatever musical style the wish.

I look forward to working with you!
