Personal Description:

Concert Pianist and Teacher for Piano, Aural, Theory, Programme Notes. Very familiar with the ABRSM exam syllabus with five years of experience in teaching students of various ages and levels.

Master of Music in Performance with Distinction (MMus) and Bachelor of Music (Hons) with First Class - studied at the Royal College of Music as a Scholar with John Byrne and Dmitri Alexeev.

Certifications of LRSM (Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music), DipABRSM (Distinction), ABRSM Grade 8 (High Distinction) in Piano. ABRSM Grade 8 (Distinction) in Violin. ABRSM Grade 8 in Music Theory.

Passionate pianist and researcher, also a chamber musician and composer. Growing up in Singapore, I speak and write in English as a first language and also speak Mandarin Chinese fluently.

I have plenty of performing and competing experience - I have performed in Venice and Padua, and within London: in Steinway Hall, St-Martin-in-the-Fields, St Stephens Church, St Mary-Abbots Church and within RCM, venues in Faversham, Sittingbourne and Chichester, as well as well-received solo recitals in Singapore. Competition successes include 2nd prizes at the Cesar Franck competition in Belgium and Citta di Padova competition in Italy, the EPTA-UK competition and the Moray Piano Competition. Won the title of Sevenoaks Young Musician of the Year 2014, and was a BBC Young Musician of the Year 2014 Keyboard Finalist. Received the Esther Fisher Prize from RCM. Most notably I was the Grand Prize winner of the Singapore Steinway Youth Piano Competition 2012.

Tutoring Experience:

I've taught students of all ages and levels, from beginners to advanced. In the past five years of teaching in London, I have particularly developed experience in helping children and teenagers fix technical issues and improve their playing significantly.

I have had students pass ABRSM grades 1-6 with distinctions and merits, as well as theory exams with distinctions. I also have experience teaching children or adults who wish to learn more casually.

Tutoring Approach:

I am patient, serious, responsible and will cater lessons to suit individual needs. I can be strict if necessary and also encouraging especially for younger learners. I am professional, punctual and plan well. I also have a very good memory for lesson material and a systematic planning of lesson structure!

I develop each student's learning material based on their requirements and wishes, and am flexible in my teaching style and communication methods. For those whose parents wish to be more directly involved in their child's learning, I am ok with them sitting in during lessons so long as it is not disruptive. I regularly update parents who wish to keep up with their child's progress.

Iā€™m based in Greenwich currently, but can travel to the South Kensington-Knightsbridge area for students on weekday evenings.
