Personal Description:

I was fortunate in being exposed to music from an early age. I learnt different instruments at school, which gave me an insight into different musical styles.
During the day I work in a high school, and always try to encourage my pupils to explore new types of music and have a go at making music, discovering new sounds.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught music privately for about 5 years. I use both Associated Board and Trinity Guildhall syllabuses, even to give a structure for pupils who don't want to sit any actual exams.
I enter pupils regularly for exams, more often Associated Board.
I have tended to teach in my own home, but have also taught some group lessons in community settings as well as in schools.

Tutoring Approach:

I always find out what the pupil wants to get out of the lessons, and review such goals at regular intervals. With younger pupils we do different musical games and activities. With all my pupils I like to make the lessons fun, and try to include music they want to learn to play, sometimes reworking song melodies for them to play.
I include technical work in every lesson, to give a firm foundation to any playing, and always explain how theory works as we go along.
