Personal Description:
London born and Guildhall School of Music and Drama trained professional opera singer and voice teacher Nazan (**Web Address Removed**), obtained Masters of Music with Distinction and a First Class BMus with Honours. Now living in South Ruislip with her husband and young son, Nazan has an active and varied performing career, alongside her teaching work. She is a prize-winning soprano; former Britten- Pears young artist, two times International Opera Awards bursary recipient, winner of the Guildhall English Song Prize and Susan Longfield Award. She has been a principal for all the main UK opera companies including Royal Opera House and English National Opera (full list below) and also continues to work in Europe around family and teaching commitments.
Nazan started her professional career as an adolescent, performing age-appropriate roles in operas and musicals, until her formal classical degree training began. She was also a “stage school kid” and continued to develop and sustain her passion for Musical Theatre well into her degree. Consequently, she sings both styles with authenticity.
Additionally, she is a passionate advocate for Arts in the community, and has been involved with Songhaven for 10 years- a not for profit organisation, specialising in performing for those with dementia and age related illnesses. She also frequently participates and leads workshops in schools, within education departments of opera houses and for youth performing arts charities and organisations.
Companies worked for:
UK- The Royal Opera House, English National Opera, Glyndebourne, Opera North, Scottish Opera, Garsington Opera, English Touring Opera, Grange Park Opera, Longborough Festival Opera, Vache Baroque.
Europe- Aix en Provence Festival, Wiener Festwochen, Edinburgh Festival, Teatro Real, Brussels La Monnaie, Poznan Opera.
Tutoring Experience:
Friendly, approachable and supportive opera singer and a passionate voice teacher of over 10 years. Can teach (and sing) Classical, Musical Theatre and Pop. Students have ranged from age 6-66; from complete beginners, those wishing to take ABRSM/LAMDA and equivalent exams, through to pupils wishing to pursue a performing career. Nazan has many years of experience teaching those with SEND, including individuals on the Autistic spectrum.
Nazan is proud that many of her formal students have gone onto be professional performers in the West End and in Opera houses. She likes to keep in touch with and continue to support and mentor whenever possible! Nazan has a 100% pass rate (all at Distinction and Merit level) for examinations. All students build confidence, varied repertoire and focus on vocal technique and stamina. Additionally, passionately believes in teaching acting through song, and encourages students to really connect to text and emotion. Teaches from spacious, well resourced music room.
Tutoring Approach:
What you can expect from lessons:
-to have fun and to feel confident to be yourself, speak and sing freely
-teaching from an experienced, patient and knowledgable person, with an active performing career and wealth of knowledge of the arts and education
-to build your vocal technique: breathing, posture, range, stamina, singing in foreign languages (if desired), diction and projection
- teaching incorporating the “bel-canto” (meaning beautiful singing in Italian) method of singing: producing healthy and well rounded voices, based on traditional Italian classical teaching techniques
-to draw on teacher’s knowledge of opera, classical song, musical theatre and pop repertoire
-use huge range of sheet music and vocal scores (you probably won’t need to buy any music) and can make legal rehearsal copies for you
-discipline, motivation and structure to guarantee progress and to feel a sense of achievement at any level

Nazan's Feedback

For this reason I wanted to find a teacher with good technical skills and good musical knowledge, and I am pleased to say that Nazan was perfect for my needs. When doing technical exercises, she plays accompaniment on the piano, and is able to switch key up and down effortlessly. She is also of course a fantastic singer herself.
The lessons are good fun (whilst also being hard work - in a good way!), and Nazan is very personable and fun. Recommended.
