Information About Myfanwy - Chislehurst teacher

Personal Description:

My name is Myfanwy and I'm a British oboist. I'm currently the principal oboe of the Alba Regia Symphony Orchestra in Hungary. It's a part - time position so I'm now mostly based in London. Before that, I was the principal oboe of the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra in South Africa. I'm looking to take on some new oboe students this year. I studied at the RCM, where I gained my Batchelor's and Master's degrees.

Tutoring Experience:

I completed a teaching course as part of my degree at the RCM, which included practical teaching experience guided by a mentor. In 2018, I did the Colourstrings Foundation Level course, so I am able to teach using this method as well. I have given masterclasses to university students and also done some private oboe teaching with children and adults.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe a different approach is necessary for each individual, as everyone has different needs and goals in their music-making. I can teach the ABRSM syllabus for students who wish to take graded exams, or work towards different goals. As I mentioned above, I am familiar with the Colourstrings teaching method, which involves more creativity and singing. So, I could also teach using this method for students who might prefer this - the method is especially suitable for younger students.
