Personal Description:

I am a professional composer, musician, and instructor. I began learning piano at age 5 up until my teens when I pivoted to guitar. I've played both instruments consistently ever since, teaching myself to sing and play bass as well. While rooted in the singer-songwriter tradition, my style has expanded to incorporate many influences, especially Jazz and Improvised Music. More recently I have been focused on music production which has led me to the Sound Design MSc Programme at the University of Edinburgh where I will graduate in the Fall. I love experimenting with sound and challenging traditional notions of what music can be. I have already started working as an in-house composer for different independent films and podcasts. My favorite aspect of teaching music is helping people get in touch with their creativity and innate musicality, which everyone has whether or not they believe it.

Tutoring Experience:

With over 10 years of childcare and teaching experience, 5 of which focused exclusively on music education, I've worked with all ages, from toddlers to seniors. After spending 5 years in pre-schools and daycares I began teaching private piano lessons to young children. I've worked for music schools in the United States like Musical Minds and the School of Rock (in West Seattle, WA), now working formally at Music Sound Academy in Edinburgh, Scotland. I have taught private and group lessons in Piano, Guitar, Bass, Voice, Songwriting, and Music Production. I have also acted as musical director at the School of Rock, casting and leading youth in tribute showcases.

Tutoring Approach:

Music is a language that no one person speaks the same. Finding the things that make someone's musical voice unique is what excites me the most about teaching music. While teaching, I am always trying to find what aspects of music the student connects with most. And when people don't know what they like it is a treat to select pieces to test their taste across styles. If a student doesn't practice that usually means, we haven't found the right music or I haven't explained things in terms that work for them. Tapping into this connection is what makes people excited to return to their instrument instead of thinking of practice as a chore.
