Information About Miriam - Edgware teacher
This is how 2 referees rated Miriam:
I have always had a love of music and of performing since a young age.
I studied Music Education at a teacher training college during the late 1970s and performed at an advanced level for my final exam.
During the early part of my teaching career, I worked in Hackney London Borough and taught music to children which involved accompanying singing for assemblies and organising material for school concerts
I have studied to first degree level with the Open University in Social Sciences and undertaken piano teacher training with the European Piano Teaching Association.
Currently I also do various singing courses and most recently took part in the Opera Studio performance workshop at the City Lit.
I now run a successful piano teaching practice from home in a relaxed and comfortable environment. Most of my students are children in the beginner to intermediate stages of learning. I am also happy to take teenagers and adults, shaping lessons to match abilities and interests.
I can offer teaching which is either progressive in method or exam focused.
Lessons take place on a quality instrument which is a Yamaha Upright U1.
I am based on the borders of Edgware and Stanmore.

I have had over 30 years experience, mainly teaching in schools, covering a range of subjects and levels. I have taught in Primary, Secondary, Special Ed and Adult Ed. I began as a classroom music teacher, but then branched out into teaching adults English and also working with children in Special Education.
More recently, I have worked from home and concentrated on piano teaching since 2006.
I like to make my lessons fun and include singing and rhythmic activities to get the melodic and rhythmic elements of the music into the mind and body.
I believe that it is important to approach learning in a step by step fashion so that we can get the right skill match to each pupil's level of understaning and coordination. That is why I consider an integrated approach to learning.
With young children, I use tutor books which contain clear graphics and duets with the teacher, that have that "hands on" fun element.
Music is instantaneously accessible. The focus is on creating sound and playing the instrument with as little hinderance as possible.
I also prepare pupils for grade exams, Initial -7 and usually although not excusively follow the Trinity Guildhall syllabus.
