Personal Description:

I am an Oxford University graduate, having completed my degree in Music in 2016. Although the degree was very academic (meaning I know a lot about music theory and history), I spent much of my time during my degree playing the oboe, piano and singing. At university I had an instrumental scholarship, and I was a choral scholar in the Worcester College Chapel Choir. Prior to this, I studied at the Royal College of Music Junior Department where I won the Sally Wainwright Woodwind Prize.

I have a Diploma on the piano and enjoy performing - my favourite composer is Rachmaninoff, but enjoy playing everything from Bach to Debussy to Scott Joplin. As an oboist I have played in many orchestras, including National Youth Chamber Orchestra, RCM Junior Department Symphony Orchestra and Oxford University Orchestra.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching piano and music theory since I was 15. I've always enjoyed teaching and so I have tried to keep it up alongside my own studies. Now that I have finished university and settled in London, I am looking for more long-term pupils.

Tutoring Approach:

Learning an instrument is meant to be fun and fulfilling, so I always tailor my teaching to what I think will work best for each individual student. I think it is important to build a strong relationship with your teacher, so I place a great importance on getting to know my pupils - how best they learn, what their interests are, and how seriously they want to take music. I am happy to teach towards graded exams, but I am equally happy to avoid exams and create our own structure for lessons. Whatever your goals, I think learning good technique is integral to improving as a musician, so I try and fit in as much technique as is relevant to each students needs.
