Personal Description:
Hello! I'm Megan and I'm a primary school teacher and music specialist with 8 years experience. I studied Primary Education with Music at the University of Reading, where I achieved a First Class Honours Degree. I am grade 8+ (ABRSM) on the flute, and grade 6 on piano (Trinity College). I have also done my music theory examination with the ABRSM.
I love helping children achieve their full potential, and seeing them grow in confidence as they realise their hard work is paying off.
I am available most days after school. Your child would be welcome to come and learn on my piano at my home, or I am also happy to travel a short distance. Ideally I would like to tutor locally (I live on the Haringey Ladder), but will also consider further afield.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught as a primary school teacher for 8 years, both in Kent and in London. For the last 5 years, I have worked in Islington, as a class teacher and the school’s Music Leader. I have taught reception, years 2, 3, 4, and 5, so I have a good understanding of how children learn through exploring their interests. As Music Lead, I lead the school choir and ensemble group.
Tutoring Approach:
As an experienced teacher, I understand the best approaches for each child and support them in a nurturing environment, to achieve their full potential. Piano/ flute sessions will be planned carefully to meet your child's needs, whilst making them engaging and fun. I will work step by step through instrumental skills and music notation reading. I will teach your child skills such as: fingering, scales, arpeggios, chords, notation reading with treble and bass clef, harmonies, improvisation and composition.
