Personal Description:

I’m Matyas , a professional musician and educator based in Chiswick, London. I developed a passion for music at a very young age, playing the trumpet at the age four. In primary school, I became familiar with jazz and bass guitar then I switched to double bass in my teenage years and started playing music professionally. I studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest and received my Master’s Degree with honours from the Music and Arts University of Vienna. Over the past few years, I have become a permanent member of the European and UK music scene and appeared at various venues and famous stages like Ronnie Scott’s, 606 or Kansas Smitty’s.

Tutoring Experience:

Since 2010, I teach privately and give individual lessons from beginners to advanced level, with students of all ages (from 6 to 65). During my academic studies, I studied pedagogy and led group and individual lessons. I also taught on workshops as part of my course and in 2018, I was one of the teachers of the Carinthian Jazz Workshop and International Saxophone Competition where I taught jazz history, music theory, ear training and ensemble.

Tutoring Approach:

For me, the most important is to help my students reach their goals, supporting them in any kind of situation. I’m happy to start with a beginner on their musical journey, prepare an advanced player for a music university audition or entrance exam, or a casual player who just wants to learn music and have fun. I always try to personalize my lessons and focus on the aims of my students. My main field is Jazz however I'm able to teach other genres like pop, latin, classical and funk. In my teaching method the music theory, scales, rhythm, harmony, improvisation, a defined technique on the instrument and several practising methods are all very important in order to improve. I’m able to teach Double Bass, Bass Guitar, Music Theory, Trumpet and Piano.
