Information About Matthew - Glasgow teacher
I'm an economics student at the University of Glasgow but music has always been an important part of my life. I've been a member of several bands (blues/rock), one of which I toured Europe with. I've also occasionally played classical and Spanish guitar in restaurants; my guitar background began with learning these styles. I'd love to work with people to help develop their skills and outlook towards music and allowing them to flourish in their own way, as everybody's take on music is vastly different. I also see tutoring as a way to develop and broaden my own outlook towards various genres of music.
Beginner's guitar teacher (part-time): Feb 2016- April 2018
Listed below is a general outline of my approach, though it must be said that my approach varies depending on the student's experience and importantly what they would like to do.
Beginner: I teach the basics of reading music and how to translate that on to the guitar, shortly working towards grades if the student wishes. On the back of this I suggest things to listen to in order to gauge where the student would like to take their playing style and abilities.
Intermediate: I work to develop the student's current ability and style in order to progress further through grades if they wish and to learn any songs they like whilst also progressing their understanding of music theory.
Casual: I help the student learn any songs they request, in any style, cleaning up any imperfections and also developing their improvisation skills. These lessons are largely lead by what the student would like to do.
