I am a PhD student in theology at Durham University. I especially love baroque music, which suits me well as a bassoon specialist. But I also enjoy playing drums and try to play some live drum & bass when I'm feeling active enough. I have traveled widely and had many different experiences, with the one common factor being my involvement in the church where I also play drums in the band. I like reading, the outdoors and sports, especially playing football (although I'm not as quick as I used to be).
My music teaching work has so far been as a private tutor (for 'A' level) and in a classroom setting (as a learning support assistant). I also have extensive experience in youth work with children of different backgrounds as well as teaching work in Central Africa at tertiary level.
I am easy going and am interested in cultivating a love for music in all pupils. I understand that everybody starts from somewhere different and take account of the individual needs of pupils, whilst at the same time looking to maximise their potential. Music should always be enjoyed, even if it sometimes takes hard work to enjoy it!
Since I have a master's degree in musicology, I understand the deep social, philosophical and psychological issues surrounding music and want to see these ideas put into practice for the holistic development of all pupils.
