Information About Mary - Banchory teacher
This is how 2 referees rated Mary:
I am both a concert harpist and a registered music therapist. I am passionate about both, and neither one ever takes priority over the other. Currently, I am working on a workplace wellbeing program called Music for Management. My goals in the world of harp performance involve ensuring the mental health of musicians and challenging performance standards that may be harmful or ostracizing to those with learning disabilities. As for my personal hobbies and interests, I love engaging in quiet creativity, such as writing, knitting, and amigurumi.
I'm afraid I have little to boast, but am excited to start. Much teaching is involved in music therapy, regarding life skills and adaptation. Knowing my way around human psychology and development, as well as having suffered a minor learning disability through through my own education, will go hand in hand with the application of music. Especially with something as wonderfully challenging as the harp.
Technique, relaxation, and adaptability are essential for both quality of music and teacher/student rapport. But especially adaptability. My hope is that my background in music therapy will provide some essential elements that I've seen many modern day instructors ignore. Learning an instrument isn't just about achievement, but oneself. As for technical resources, I will be utilizing the ABRSM system, and my school of technique is called Salzedo. Students will also have the opportunity to perform alongside me in an annual recital and participate in ABRSM exams.
