Personal Description:

I'm a dedicated and supportive teacher with 15+ years of experience teaching all ages and abilities. From total beginners wondering how to get started to professionals looking to improve, I can help!

As a sought-after singing and piano teacher at top London schools, as well as teaching at St Andrew's University, music education is something that I am passionate about. It's really important to me to keep lessons fun and instil a love of music in each student, whilst making sure to help you achieve your musical and technical goals, guiding you toward the next step in your journey.

Genres, styles and approach

Lessons are approachable, enjoyable and productive, and I am comfortable and experienced teaching a large range of styles, both singing and piano, including classical, choral, musical theatre, jazz, folk and pop. I'm also a CPD accredited Vocal Health First Aider, meaning that I have an extensive understanding of vocal anatomy and can help with any vocal issues that you may experience.

Do you teach towards graded exams?

As well as teaching singing and piano, I have a lot of experience teaching music theory up to degree level, and preparing pupils for ABRSM grade exams. If that's a goal you'd like to aim for, great! I've never had a student achieve below a merit in an exam. However, if you're not interested in grades, that's great too - there's no one-size-fits-all approach to teaching, and we'll always move forward with your goals and enjoyment in mind.

Where do lessons take place?

I'm experienced and comfortable teaching both in person and online. In person, lessons will be at my studio in Epsom (KT19). I do occasionally travel to students, for which I charge a travel fee.

What is a first lesson like?

In your first lesson, you can expect a gentle start, with some chatting about your musical experience and goals, before moving on to some warm ups, exercises, and then working on songs or pieces of music. If you have something you'd like to sing or play, please bring it along! Otherwise I'm always happy to help finding something to suit you. More experienced students can expect to dive in wherever you feel comfortable, which we can decide together when we first get to know each other.

Send me a message to find out more or to arrange a first lesson! I'm excited to meet you and work together!

Tutoring Experience:

Has taught both adults and children at a varying degree of standards for over six years.

Able to teach music theory and academic music in addition to singing.

Mark’s main aim when teaching is to instil not only a solid technique, but also a love of singing. His lessons are highly approachable, fun and productive.

Can teach in varying styles, including classical, opera, musical theatre, jazz, pop, folk etc.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a relaxed, patient and approachable teacher. I engage every student on their own level, but always with unwavering enthusiasm and love for the subject. I believe that I can bring fun into even the less enjoyable parts of musical tuition, and really enthuse a student, whilst effectively educating them.
