The first focus is on sound development. With a beautiful sound, even one single note sounds beautiful!
When teaching Jazz or Latin, I use one song per class, so that will usually involve working on reading the song, analysing the chord sequence and scales that can be used for improvisation.
When teaching classical, a wide range of pieces are available to suit your level, from absolute beginners to advanced. Bit by bit, we increase the level of difficulty.
