Personal Description:
I am an experienced teacher with a music degree from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. I won a scholarship to study at the conservatoire, learning with two esteemed violinists and teachers, Rimma Sushanskaya and Susanne Stanzeleit. I teach both violin and viola to all ages and abilities. I also teach music theory to a grade 8 standard.
Tutoring Experience:
I teach music in schools and in private lessons.
Tutoring Approach:
I cater my teaching to every individual pupil, and assess their skills and ability levels, taking their personal learning styles and interests into consideration.
I believe it is very important to encourage pupils by providing them with positive feedback and continuously acknowledging their achievements and progress. I track my students’ progress by using practice journals, in which I write them weekly notes on how and what to practise, including praise and acknowledgement for reaching their goals.
One of the things I most enjoy about one-to-one teaching is that I am able to provide a safe space for pupils to learn at their own paces and develop their musical skills in an environment where they feel confident and at ease. I feel that acquiring self-confidence is such an important part of growing up, especially for children who have learning difficulties and additional needs.
I teach in accordance with the specifications and requirements of ABRSM, Trinity College London and London College of Music examination boards. I believe it is very important to take the individual’s musical skills, needs and interests into consideration before deciding which exam board would be best suited to their musical progression. I also am very familiar with the Suzuki method of teaching, and use Suzuki materials to teach my pupils.
