Personal Description:

Lisa is a professional singer and vocal-animateur who recently returned to Hull from London, with over twelve years’ experience working within education, and thirty years as a performer. She recently completed the PG Artist Diploma at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance with a Distinction, and also holds music degrees from the Universities of York (MA Vocal Performance) and Newcastle-Upon-Tyne (BMus Hons). As a professional musician she has performed throughout the UK, USA, China and Europe, with a diverse repertoire including classical music, opera, music theatre, pop, folk and jazz. Commercial recordings include Alexander Armstrong - A Year of Songs (East West Records), The Bee Symphony (Touch), Faust (BBC Naxos), and New Music from Old York (Boreas), and Riddle Songs (Dephian) which is released later this year. She has also appeared on the BBC Radio 3, The One Show, Russian Channel 1 News and has performed at diverse venues and events such as Westminster Abbey, the 02, Liverpool Echo Arena, the Sage Gateshead, Beijing and Shanghai Concert Halls, Tête-à-Tête Opera Festival, and the British Composer’s Awards.

Tutoring Experience:

Lisa has over fourteen years experience teaching and has taught throughout the UK, as well as in Spain and Italy. She has offered private lessons on singing, piano and music theory (and formally flute), for twelve years and has worked for numerous companies in London, Yorkshire and abroad such as Upbeat Music, Music Maps, Leigh Academy Blackheath, Wetherby High School, as well as running community choirs (Knot Another Choir), and Rock Choir, school choirs and one-off workshops. She was co-director for several years of Timeline Songs, which delivered bespoke Heritage Singing Events around the UK.

Tutoring Approach:

Teaching in vocals:

Lisa teaches vocals from beginners to advanced students of all ages. Lessons are tailored specifically to a student’s needs but can include:

- Basic to advanced singing techniques
- Musical expression and performance
- Optional music reading and sight-singing
- Career development advice
- A broad range of repertoire
- Piano skills can be incorporated for self-accompaniment or practice purposes.
- An introduction to songwriting
- Optional preparation for exams, performances, auditions, festivals and competitions

Teaching in piano :
Lisa teaches piano from beginners to advanced students of all ages. Lessons are tailored specifically to a student’s needs:

- Accompaniment
- Technique
- Repertoire
- Musical expression and performance
- Guidance for practice
- Notation, sight-reading and theory
- Reading chords, and improvisation
- Optional preparation for exams, performances, auditions, festivals and competitions

First lesson:
The first lesson is an opportunity for teacher and student to get to know each other and is not an audition! It is vitally important to have a good rapport with your teacher and enjoy your lessons (otherwise what is the point?!) There is no commitment with the first lesson, and you are fully encouraged to go away and have a think or a chat after the consultation lesson before committing to lessons. It will also give Lisa an opportunity to learn what the needs and aims of the student are.

Beginners:
Everyone is welcome regardless of age, or level of experience, as learning an instrument can have a massive positive impact on our well-being and confidence. Beginners are just as welcome as advanced students.

Please feel free to write Lisa a message if you are interested in signing up for lessons or have any questions.
