Personal Description:

I am a very experienced teacher over several decades. I was originally educated at Chetham's School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music, and won the J & J Brough flute prize and a Countess of Munster award. I studied with the well-known flute players Gareth Morris, Atarah Ben Tovim, Patricia Morris and Sebastian Bell. I played the flute professionally, freelancing, for example, with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. My other work included solo recitals and early twentieth-century and contemporary chamber music, on the flute, piccolo and alto flute.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught the flute and piccolo to a high standard for several decades, as well as many other aspects of musicianship.

I had a full time appointment at a leading independent girls' school as head of woodwind and brass (1989-1999): this gave opportunity for more teaching in classes as well as individuals, in addition to other more diverse performances conducting orchestras, bands and flute choirs with theory and composition teaching up to A level.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach the flute to ages 8-88, and theory, composing and conducting. No matter what age you are and level of ability I can teach you. I have wide experience teaching all ages and standards, beginners to post grade 8. I help pupils prepare for concerts and exams or just if they want to study for fun! I accompany pupils on the piano in lessons, play duets and organise concerts for my pupils as part of their development. I can give a free consultation lesson, otherwise it's £15 for 30 minutes payable by paypal - this is usually paid for in advance. This works out as £20 for 40 minutes or £30 per hour.
