I am a friendly, open-minded person who understands that everyone learns in their own way and that each pupil has a different preferred genre to listen to and play. I have played drums for over 15 years with my main influences being rock, jazz and fusion. Alongside that, I have played saxophone for 10 years as well as piano and guitar.
I studied at and graduated from the University of Leeds, studying Music with a Major in Performance. During this time I took lessons with Clark Tracey, one of England's most highly regarded jazz drummers, and Dave Hassel, who teaches at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music in London.
I have over 5 years teaching experience, teaching people of all ages, from 10 years of age through to adults and students at university. I have also taught percussion workshops of a variety of genres to large groups of people.
Using the graded courses for drum kit is a good way to start learning the drums, however, the more advanced the pupil becomes then the less essential they become.
Should a pupil not wish to follow the graded courses then the lessons become much freer to study other things that interest them, such as latin genres or playing along to their favourite tracks and learning techniques suited to those styles.
