Personal Description:
I'm a Scottish, Glasgow-based professional singer/actor.
Training: Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Bachelor of Music (classical singing) / Royal Academy of Music, MA in Performance (musical theatre)
If you have a passion for performing, if you want to get a hang of that tricky bit in that piece you love or if you're brand new to it all, I’d love to work with you!
No matter the genre, we can work together to bring out the best in your practice and performance.
The entry point for me when learning / performing / watching a piece is Acting-Through-Song. There’s a reason the writer’s written it like that - let’s work to find out what that reason is! The more truthful the performance, the richer the experience for the audience and the performer. Acting-Through-Song allows you to use your voice, your body and your brain to communicate the story - pretty nifty, eh?
I want to suit the lesson to you. Maybe you have an audition coming up. Maybe you want to look over your rep folder. Maybe you’re feeling burned out and just want a space to talk about your goals and ambitions.
I know how intimidating music lessons can be, so I assure you that our lessons will be a place where you can make mistakes with absolutely zero judgement. I have first-hand experience of tackling nerves and using them to fuel my performance - I'll help pass this confidence on to you. We can set learning goals together so you get the most out of your time with me.
Maybe you fancied acquiring a new skill over lockdown and got a trumpet - stranger things have happened! Well, if the mood strikes you, I’ve played the trumpet for 20 years, so would love to coach you some brass!
* Due to COVID-19, I’ll be offering my lessons online. Once the world becomes a safer place, we can figure out a plan for moving forward *
No matter the genre/style- we can work together to bring out the best.
If you fancy learning music theory or the trumpet, I can help with that too!
Performance Credits: AVENUE Q, UK Tour; ALL THE ANGELS, Shakespeare's Globe; BERNSTEIN'S MASS, Royal Festival Hall; BRASS, Union Theatre (Off West End nomination); THE DIVIDE, The Old Vic; THE THROWAWAYS, The Other Palace; SWEENEY TODD, Royal Academy of Music; CALL TO ADVENTURE, National Theatre of Scotland.
Tutoring Experience:
I've trained at two of the world's leading music schools and I've had a varied performance career - I'm so excited to share what I've learned with the next generation of artists.
Tutoring Approach:
What I will to bring to the role… - a strong focus on maintaining vocal health, regardless of the genre we'll be singing in
- a focus on the wellbeing of the student; performing can be an exposing and stressful experience, so we'd work together to bring out the best in the student
- a promotion of organisation and a strong work ethic
- a wide knowledge of repertoire
- a sense of fun and enjoyment!
