Hi I'm Laura and I first started playing the cello aged 7. Previously I attended the Royal College of Music Junior Department and then received a scholarship to study for my bachelor degree at the Royal Academy of Music and graduated with first class honours. I have recently graduated from Masters studies at the Guildhall School of Music.
I have performed at most major UK concert halls with English Chamber Orchestra, Royal Academy Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Proms Youth Ensemble, the National Youth Orchestra and the National Childrens’ Orchestras. In 2019 I was also invited to play in the LacMus Festival Orchestra on Lake Como. I am also a passionate chamber musician and perform with my piano trio, Torridon Trio, around the UK most recently performing at the Wigmore Hall.
I have had experience in private teaching on a one to one basis with levels ranging from grades 1-6. I have prepared students for ABRSM exams and school music scholarship exams. I have also given chamber music coaching at a music course 'Cello Dynamo'. Furthermore I have participated in Outreach schemes where I have been involved leading workshops with small groups of school children. Outside of cello teaching, I have worked as a member of the social staff team for the National Children's Orchestras.
I am prepared to teach beginners to advanced grade 8 standard students from age 4 and up. I am happy to prepare students for ABRSM grade exams, but will accommodate to the wishes of students. I can include aural skills in lessons, such as rhythm exercises, singing and general music theory. The two main aspects that I feel are most important to focus on with students are musical creativity and technique on the instrument. Technique includes a large number of aspects in cello playing such as intonation, sound quality, comfort with the instrument and posture.
I am also happy to teach beginner piano students up to grade 3 standard, including aural skills and general music theory tuition.
