This is how 3 referees rated Kyriacos:
Born in Nicosia in 1992, Kyriacos discovered his love for the Saxophone from an early age. After earning a place to the Nicosia Music High School where studied saxophone with Y.Miralis, he continued further studies with Kyle Horch at Royal Holloway, University of London.
Graduating from Royal Holloway with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree, Kyriacos continued as postgraduate student combining Performance and Ethnomusicology at RHUL where he was awarded with a Master of Music degree in Saxophone Performance. His research focus draws upon the Shakuhachi Inspired repertoire for the Saxophone with relations to the Japanese Culture, Zen, Meditation and Mindfulness. Having his heart set on performing, Kyriacos has given a series of saxophone performances in Cyprus, Greece, Spain, Germany, Italy and the UK.
Kyriacos is showing interest in the contemporary classical music for saxophone and collaboration with experimental composers. More recent performances include a set of world premiers by composers such as Spinosa, Colasanti, Kozakou, Miklos, Lacaze, Seara, Olive, Street, Mulvey, Capdevila for saxophone quartet in collaboration with the "Foundation Adkins Chiti: Women in Music", as well as a celebrating commission by J.Yarde for the London Jazz Festival’s 21st birthday. The Saxophone as an instrument has a lot of capabilities. Different sounds, techniques, colours and emotions that can be experienced not only through observation… During my teaching, I rely on the student's needs and views on the instrument. Some might want to learn particular songs and pieces, others will want to sound like a certain player and others will want to explore what saxophone can sound like. All will then find their own way to recreate a musical dialogue by having the instrument as extension of their body.
I try to combine both technique and leisure teaching towards a certain goal, by keeping the student engaged to the instrument as a music making tool and achieve freedom of flow and improvisation as well as relaxation of the body and posture while playing.
I am open to any type of players, beginners/starters to advanced and can manipulate teaching methods depending on their views and needs.
**Students can be prepared for ABRSM and/or Trinity instrumental examinations.**
