Personal Description:

I have been a musician and a teacher for most of my life, having begun teaching 35 years ago. I have prepared a range of individuals for auditions, interviews and performances, including festivals and lead parts in musicals. I enjoy playing a range of music from classical through to jazz, having taken part in numerous performances over the years as a choral singer, in operetta and as a chamber music and orchestral player, as well as a Gypsy Jazz Trio. I have played piano and organ since the age of eleven and am accustomed to accompanying singers/choirs and instrumentalists on piano.

Tutoring Experience:

I am a fully qualified and highly experienced teacher of over 35 years' experience. I have been teaching the violin privately for 10 years, as well as vocal coaching and providing piano lessons.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a very holistic approach towards the teaching of music, since holding a musical instrument places pressure on certain muscles and can lead to unhelpful posture, which can in turn affect performance. I studied Alexander Technique many years ago and have continued to share some of the approaches that I discovered through the one to one sessions. I feel that learning an instrument should be enjoyable and relaxing so I like to provide an environment and ethos in which students can feel fully relaxed and fully enjoy their instrumental lessons.
