Personal Description:

I am an enthusiastic and experienced singer-songwriter equipped with a 2:1 bachelors degree in Music from the University of Southampton and working towards a Masters in Songwriting from the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (London). I have been working in the music industry for 6 years as a live performer, songwriter and in the studio. I perform regularly as a solo artist under the name 'March' and have experience singing with ensembles including concert bands, the Loveday Singers chamber choir and as a backing vocalist for several current and touring bands. As well as performing my solo material at venues around the UK, my experience includes playing at Glastonbury 2019, being regularly featured on BBC Music Introducing and recording a live session for BBC Radio Solent.

I am a singing teacher primarily, also working with songwriters on writing style and coaching those who suffer from stage anxiety and nerves. I also offer piano, acoustic/electric guitar lessons for pop/rock beginners and help with music theory up to grade 5 standard. I can also offer basic music technology tuition if the student would like to get to know software such as Garageband, Logic Pro X, Sibelius etc.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching singing privately for the last 2 years as well as running vocal/songwriting workshops for 11-18 yr olds.

"Having put off taking lessons for years, Kitty's teaching only reinforces my love for singing, and has really helped boost my confidence! We've also been working on getting over my chronic fear of songwriting, which I'm now learning to love!" - Jen (25) pop/jazz

"My vocals lacked physical support and Kitty taught me how to anchor so I could produce and sustain high and belty notes" - Em (18) musical theatre

"Her ear for an irresistible pop hook allows her to build something joyful, hopeful and undeniably catchy. It's a sign of a great songwriter when we find ourselves clicking play for the fifth time in a row." - Folkroom Records

Tutoring Approach:

I offer lessons to students of all voices, ages and abilities including a variety of styles such as Pop, Jazz, Indie, Rock, RnB, Folk and more. Using a holistic approach and methods I have practiced with my own tutors for many years, I am keen to tackle any challenge from technique, range and vibrato to confidence, performance anxiety and stage presence. I have a particular interest in helping to develop a unique vocal style and helping students to find their own voice. I am keen to teach both young people and adults, with a strong interest in those wishing to improve their live performance. I can also work with students who wish to accompany themselves on their instrument of choice, and can also provide speaker and microphone to practise microphone technique to a backing tracks.

After years of my own personal songwriting development and since successfully self-releasing and touring my debut album last year, I have been teaching songwriting workshops for 11-18 yr olds and I would be thrilled to tutor any singer-songwriters that wish to work on both their vocals and writing style.
